Mounting TapeThe 0.55mm and 0.38mm INNOVA Flexo Plate Mounting Tape range (also commonly known as Sticky Back Tapes in America) has ideal applications for wide web and labels printing. They ensure good quality printing results even for complex and long print runs. The INNOVA 69-73 wide web range is available in 0.55mm thickness. It comes in five different foam hardness and two adhesion levels. As a result, this enables the mounting operators to choose the most suitable version based on their print design and process parameters. The INNOVA 40-41 range is available in 0.38mm.
Tip: If you didn't decide yet, go for the Medium choice, a selection that matches almost every kind of work.
Indeed, the choice of the appropriate hardness depends primarily on the ink coverage of the printing plate. The majority of press runs go with one of the three medium adhesive tapes.
Other factors are the substrate and ink viscosity. On uncoated paper, soft tapes will provide the best results. Because Flexo Printing has few standards, we recommend a fingerprint test. The fingerprint test is the most scientific way to get to the right combination.
Choose the Right Adhesion for your Needs
- Innova Plate Mounting rolls come in two different formats, a high adhesive version and a standard version.
- The high adhesive one is highlighted by the letter “H“, while the standard one has no extra letter.
- If you think your sleeve could lift while operating, you may go for the high adhesive solution.
- Otherwise, if you are working with thinner plates, the standard adhesion will be your best choice.
- Moreover, if you need to remove the sleeve quickly, you can safely go with the standard format.
To "H" or not to
You can find the adhesive options of the Innova Plate Mountings by the products having the “H” letter in the name.
Tip to choose the select the Right Adhesion and Right Hardness to choose the perfect product.
The Right Adhesion
For printing cylinders with repeat lengths of up to 400mm, the “H”-Version may be used. As it has higher adhesion to both the plate and sleeve side, it will ensure the bond. This way, the operator reduces the risk of plate lift – especially with printing plates at 1.7mm thickness or more. On the other side, the basic adhesion version fits better with thinner plates. We believe it is also ideal for large formats or repeats lengths over 400mm. Especially if you need an easy removal, the standard is always a good choice.

The Right Hardness
Certainly, the choice of the appropriate hardness depends primarily on the ink coverage of the printing plate. When it comes to fine lines and ink coverage up to 20% better use a soft Plate Mounting Tape like INNOVA 69. But for solid areas with 100% ink coverage a hard tape like INNOVA 73 is undoubtedly the better choice. But there are many levels between those two. So, the majority of press runs go with one of the three medium adhesive tapes. Other factors are the substrate and ink viscosity. On uncoated paper, soft tapes will provide the best results. But with PE-film, it is safer to go with medium hardness. Because Flexo Printing has few standards, we recommend a fingerprint test. The finger print test fingerprint test is the most scientific way to get to the right combination.

General recommendations for Plate Mounting Tape
Processing our tapes is very simple, but it always works best on cleaned surfaces. For safe use without lifting the plate edges, try using masking tape on the plate edges.
